NSFWG Background Paper

Community-144653342

For those of you who haven’t seen this yet, the National SmokeFree Working Group today released a document E-cigarettes and their potential contribution to achieving the Smokefree 2025 goal – E-Cigarettes

“This background paper has been prepared for the New Zealand National Smokefree Working Group to consider the role that e- cigarettes could play in reducing smoking prevalence and helping achieve Smokefree 2025.”

We believe anyone with an interest in this situation should take the time to read the entire document and take it within the context that all parties to the document represent all sides of the issue and that the document itself is the best effort towards achieving a consensus on the issues involved.

To be honest, we were surprised only in that the document is much more balanced than we had expected and whilst there are still issues that need to be addressed with regards to perceptions and policies, we realise that this is not a final policy document so therefore some of the more contentious issues we may have with this document will be addressed in our final submission to the Ministry of Health regarding the legalisation of nicotine e-liquid and ENDS.   We invite everyone to do the same.

There is also going to be an Online Expert Q&A re: E-Cigarettes about this, with some of the members of the NSFWG on 30 August at 2:30pm at the link above.

As things develop, we will keep you informed.
